"Hello:
I moved into a new lake home 3 months ago.  The original owner had done extensive and quality landscaping which included a "Nightscaping" lighting system.  Although a relatively simple one (a T-250-SS Power Center, a digital timer, photocell and 6 lighting fixtures), it was very nicely designed.  Unfortunately, the property had been bought by an investment developer who neglected the property for 3 years, with no one living in it for the past 2 years.    Hence, when I moved in, none of the outdoor lighting worked.   I also did not have the funds at present due to the new home purchase and moving expenses to hire professionals to solve the problem. 

I have a bit of familiarity with regular electrical wiring, but absolutely none with 12V wiring.  Fortunately, the powercenter had "Nightscaping" on it and when I did an internet search, I ended up on your site.  As I read through some of the information, I figured the next step was to figure out what powercenter I had.  That was actually the hardest part of the job.  I couldn't, for the life of me, figure out how to open the power center.  (It's very simple once you know how, but until then, it is quite the puzzle...)  Finally, through persistence, I did discover the key.   From there I was able to ascertain what components were in this system and learned that it had last been serviced in 2003 (3 1/2 years ago.)  Again turning to your site, I found the maintenance schedule, and set about performing the tasks -- a wide variety of insect invaders had made many, many homes in the equipment (including a hive of wasps and large hoards of spiders, as well as white cocoons containing unknown creatures).  I removed the invaders (carefully in the case of the wasps), cleaned out the fixtures, removed what was left of the lamps and took them all to a quality supplier who deals with Nightscaping fixtures.  He sorted through the remnants (many of the bulbs were in pieces) and was able to sort out what I needed.  I then replaced all of the lamps, turned the bypass toggle switch to on and presto, the lights worked.  Next, I read the instructions for the Powercenter and Digital Timer, set everything, and waited until dusk when the lights all went on just as scheduled and turned off again just as nicely at the appointed time.

I was very impressed with the quality of your product that it could survive the degree of neglect that it had experienced and still work perfectly once it was cleaned and relamped.  It is a beautiful, as well as quality system.  I feel fortunate that the original owner chose Nightscaping.

Now, for the question:  I noticed reference to 100 hrs. of battery backup for the timer in case of power failure (on the digital timer instruction sheet).  Is there an actual battery that provides this backup?  If so, how would I tell if it needs to be replaced?
